On Tuesday 27 June we launched our theme for TEDxAdelaide 2017.
A TEDx theme is there to provide a backdrop, a common thread loosely tying each of the talks together and provides the platform for inspiration to our speakers to spread their ideas. Check out the rest of the photos on Mason Digital.
This year, the TEDxAdelaide theme was founded in two common Adelaide sayings;
“Two degrees of separation” and “Adelaide is a big country town”.
This year at TEDxAdelaide we want to challenge the often negative connotations of these sayings and demonstrate the world of opportunities that lies behind them. These two phrases say that we are well-connected and we have scale; the perfect kindling for the spreading of ideas, which is what TED is all about!
TEDxAdelaide organisers and community members came together at a secret event to announce this year’s event theme of….
TEDxAdelaide > Zoom Out
We invited attendees to co-create around our event theme to begin its evolution into something that truly represents Adelaide, its people and our ideas. We asked them to tell us what imagery came to mind when they thought of ‘Zoom Out’, what subjects and speakers they wanted to hear from and what ‘Zoom Out’ meant to them. We can’t wait to collate all of their notes, scribbles and drawings into a fun and inspiring event for everyone.
What does ‘Zoom Out’ mean to the TEDxAdelaide Team?
To ‘zoom out’ is to change our perspectives and think about things from a big-picture point of view. If we zoom out and look at our wider circle of connections, and the connections of those connections, we realise the power we can have to make an impact or start a movement… and every movement starts with an idea!
Adelaide isn’t a small country town, we are considerably larger than that and we need to think big to be big!
On Thursday the 2nd of November from 2pm, we’re inviting this year’s TEDxAdelaide speakers to spread their ideas, which might start in Adelaide, but aspire to create something for the world. Adelaide has world leading ideas (and idea-makers!) and TEDxAdelaide wants to put them on the famous red circle.
Applications for this year’s speaker submissions are now open, if you think you have an idea that will encourage the audience to change the lens with which they view the world we encourage you to apply here!
You don’t need to be a well-known public figure or a fabulous public speaker to get on our stage, our amazing team and community of past speakers will be there to coach and support you, you just need to have a great idea and a passion to share it!
Not interested in speaking this time but still want to be involved? TEDx is powered by an entirely volunteer based team and we can always use some more passionate, hands and heads to get the show on the road. Register your interest in volunteering here.
The best way to keep to connected to us is through our mailing list. We’ll be sending updates over the coming months about how our theme is coming to life, events, speakers and tickets.
